Population: 1.3 billion, about 1 of every 5 people on the planet
Land Size: Roughly the same as the US
Capital: Beijing
Religion: Officially, atheism. However, China is a huge place with a lot of people groups and influences. Many profess atheism, but in practice, many people practice a form of Buddhism, Confucianism, ancestor worship, Taoism, and other systems.
Challenges for Evangelism:
1. “Why did it take you so long to come?” - While the message is spreading rapidly, China’s sheer size and population has still left many unable to hear. For most, obtaining a copy of the Bible is difficult. Huge population centers still have no known Christian witness.
2. “Money is most important,” is an oft-earned phrase in this rapidly growing economy.
3. “I am my own god.” For years, the people have been taught that there is no God. The spiritual vacuum has created a mindset in many that they need nothing but themselves to satisfy their spiritual needs.
Growth of Christianity: The church is growing rapidly, despite persecution and difficulties facing Chinese believers.
Prayer Requests: Pray for workers to enter into the harvest fields of China (Luke 10:2) from around the world, and especially within China.
Ask that Chinese church leaders would be strengthened to the tasks before them, no matter the cost, and that they would grow in knowledge as they teach and lead.
