The
Ewenki life is one of isolation. A nomadic people,
they live in tents and move as often as every
two days in the winter, or every ten days in
the spring. They build storerooms in trees where
they keep grain, clothes, and unused household items. "Ewenki" means "people who live in big forests."
The Ewenki are honest and hospitable people,
courteous to others and famous as horsemen.
They both hunt and herd reindeer. Ewenkis eat
wild animal meat and drink deer milk. Most of
their clothes are made of rawhide, heavy with
embroidery. In addition, they make items out
of tree bark and branches, including household items, boats, or
toys for their children.
