The Kazak people have a distinctive taste in food. One of their favorite summer beverages is called Kumis. Kumis is fresh horse milk mixed regularly until it ferments, becoming sour horse milk wine. They also enjoy nan (baked cake "made of flour"), rice cooked with minced mutton, baursak (dough fried in sheep's fat), and flour sheets cooked with mutton and very few vegetables. Traditionally, the Kazaks are a nomadic people who earn their living by raising animals.

The Kazaks are known for their hand-made embroideries of flower and animal horn patterns made with woolen threads sewn symmetrically on black, red and purple velvet. Some women have opened an embroidery factory and now market their products. The Kazak herdsmen wear the embroideries. Women enjoy wearing brightly colored dresses, especially red and other embroidered clothes.
