The Qiang live in the Sichuan Province about ten hours away from the city of Chengdu. The Qiang area is home to the Giant Panda and the fabled Yeti or 'Big Foot." The Qiang are skilled masons and excellent architects who build castles, suspension bridges, dams, and wells.

Some of the Qiang people have become followers of Tibetan Buddhism, but the majority of the Qiang are animists worshipping the "Heavenly God." The "God of White Stone" is their guardian god. They place a white quartz stone on the roofs, windows, and corners of their homes, as well as on the edges of their fields to protect them. These stones are worshiped whenever they go on a hunting trip.

It has been suggested that the Qiang people may be related to the Jewish people since some parts of their religion relate to Old Testament Judaism.
