A rich, colorful folklore characterizes the Salar people. They have countless songs, tales and legends which tell of the courage and wisdom of their people. When singing their traditional songs, the people often insert their own impromptu words. Although their traditional folk singing has changed much in the past 50 years, many song and dance troupes are still in existence today.

The Salar culture has been strongly influenced by Islam, their main religion. Most women wear kerchiefs on their heads, and many prefer to wear black sleeveless vests over bright colored clothing. Salar women are also proficient in embroidery. The men often wear flat-topped brimless hats and sheepskin or woolen clothing.
