Please join our East Asia workers in our Monthly Focus for Prayer and Fasting. Huludao Cityis our focus for April 14.
Looking for a leaning tower in an industrialized city of 1.2 million people? How about a part of the historical Great Wall built over water during the Ming Dynasty? Both can be found in the city of Huludao in Liaoning province, northeastern China. The city also has a harbor and a peninsula.
This city boasts having the world’s first leaning tower, Qianwei Leaning Tower, and the Jiu Menjou Great Wall which is the only part of the infamous structure built over water. Many people visit the city because of the sea and to play on the beach. But Huludao is also a very industrialized city including oil refining, zinc processing, chemical production, power generation and ship building.
The city has two large churches and an estimated 40,000 Christians in the city and greater city area, and although that may sound like a lot, it only accounts for three percent of the population in a city of 1.2 million people. There is still much unknown about the state of Christianity in the city. Please pray for fresh understanding about the spiritual needs of the city. There are more than one million city residents who are still lost.
