Bill Wallace -- What Would He Think Today? It is early morning in Wuzhou and the city is just awakening. This is the city where missionary physician Bill Wallace gave his life. This is the place to which he was called . . . Where he served faithfully . . . Where he was martyred in a jail cell in early 1951 at the age of 44. Having just toured the city, and having even had opportunity to visit the hospital where he served, I could not help but wonder what Bill Wallace would think about Wuzhou today. (11.19.04)

Henrietta Shuck -- Still They Remember Her. It has been 160 years since Henrietta Shuck died in Hong Kong, but some still gather to remember her each year. Even though she died shortly before the Southern Baptist Convention was formed, she is generally considered to be the first Southern Baptist woman missionary to China. She was also the first woman missionary to start schools for Chinese children, and the first missionary woman to died in Hong Kong. (11.19.04)

Hegang: Breaching the Darkness. A thick layer of coal dust seems to permeate everything in Hegang, located in China’s northeastern Heilongjiang Province. Centered around the railroad that has carried coal in and out of the city for many years, Hegang’s spiritual climate is almost as dark. (10.15.04)
